Question of the Day: what will not migrate in Google Pages?

So, google pages (the online editor/hosted website creator available for free to google/gmail customers) is going away. It will be replaced by google sites. I, as well as a ton of other google users, received the following message (prompting a question from friend, about whether her site would migrate properly):
However, we've identified you as using Google Page Creator to host files that Sites doesn't support. We are writing to inform you that, as part of this migration, if you take no action to address this, your hosted files will likely break.

GLA / COMO 2008

So, who's going to GLA/COMO '08? For the first time in FOREVER it seems, I am not presenting. How'd that happen? ;-)Instead, I'm on the ballot (unopposed) to Chair the Professional And Continuing Education Interest Group (PACE, that is)The problem I always have with conferences is whether to go support my friends/colleagues/coworkers or whether I should only go to those that interest me, or well, those that sound like fun. I try to hit the middle ground! ;-)I'm going to the 'Taking on Technology Preconference' (sounds like fun!) on Weds.

Q&A: Installing opensource software

Today's question from my mailbox: Once you download an Opensource software how do you know it will work on your server? If you can FTP/ssh/webdav into your webspace you should be able to install any software that you download provided:
  • Your server meets the System requirements needed for the software, e.g., right version of php loaded, mysql, imagemajick, adequate space, etc.

Developing your professional digital identity or personal branding

Which domains do you need? Web Worker Daily answers this timely question. I just had a conversation with a colleague at lunch yesterday about digital identity and developing a digital presence. One step in developing a digital identity is to figure out what your website moniker should be, which then of course can be used for email, too. I've been thinking a lot lately about digital identity lately. I think it is going to be a huge issue in the future.

GOLD/GALILEO review

Friday (8/1/08) I attended the GOLD/GALILEO Annual Users Group Conference. This conference gets better and better every year and I think the session offerings get better, too.The keynote speaker was funny and enthusiastic (Cliff Landis) -- always a plus. I attended a session on website redesign, blogging, and the third, on the GALILEO Institutional Repository project. The first session was on website redesign.
