When I first read this article about "hip" librarians, I just thought yuck, not again! At least this article appears in a lifestyle section instead of being presented as serious news. I suppose that it is kind of nice to see that librarians are interesting enough to be included in a lifestyle section. ;-)However, isn't it all just promoting a new stereotype? Is having a stereotype a requirement of a profession?

Okay, I don't have a personal use for this YET, but I can see all kinds of fun applications. Got family or friends visiting for a week? Create a map of fun stuff to do. Got folks coming to a conference? Create a map of activities and places to eat.Campus tours? Art about town walking tours? Hmm.... Next vacation, forget the highlighter and sticky notes on a map... I'm mapleting it.

As far as I can see it doesn't work as a meta engine collecting results from all sites, but still kind of neat.sputtr searches sites/search engines of your choosing such as google, digg, flickr, youtube, yahoo, wikipedia, even imdb and deviantart:http://www.sputtr.com/

Well, I've finally got drupal up and running (again, second time is a charm, correct?). It's kind of bare bones at the moment - no portfolio, not much content, and the design is kind of funky. However, the goal is to create my dossier/portfolio using drupal. I'll be able to control access and I think (hope!) that I'll be able to create a structure that is logical and easy for the review committee to use.
