New social networking site for genealogists

This is for my mom ;-)--------------GenealogyWise.com is a brand new social networking site, similar to Facebook, but dedicated to genealogists. In fact, it was officially announced the first part of July.GenealogyWise.com is a site with forums, blogs, videos, RSS feeds and more - again, all related to genealogy. Developed by WorldVitalRecords.com, it looks to be a great tool to help us stay andget connected with other researchers.

Posting by email with wordpress and blogger

e-Publishing? Isuuu?

Has anyone used Issuu to epublish? If so, what do you think? I've been considering switching platforms for the arts magazine. I like PacerCMS, but I don't have much time for development these days. I chose PacerCMS because it created a nice issue and did everything I wanted out of the box (and it pretty much does, once I created my CSS templates). So, I don't HAVE to switch to anything... but whoa, does Issuu look good. However, the free version is ad based. ;-(Is there anything opensource like Issuu?

In the past few years, I've been noticing a trend amongst many of the smart, talented cataloging colleagues that I know -- they are are leaving the Cataloging profession.I think there are many factors at work, but I see a few trends:
  • The shifted job: Their jobs have shifted even if their job descriptions or titles have not.
  • The evolved job: Their jobs and official job descriptions have shifted from "Cataloger" to something involving bibliographic services, metadata, electronic resources, digital initiatives, etc.

GLA / COMO 2008

So, who's going to GLA/COMO '08? For the first time in FOREVER it seems, I am not presenting. How'd that happen? ;-)Instead, I'm on the ballot (unopposed) to Chair the Professional And Continuing Education Interest Group (PACE, that is)The problem I always have with conferences is whether to go support my friends/colleagues/coworkers or whether I should only go to those that interest me, or well, those that sound like fun. I try to hit the middle ground! ;-)I'm going to the 'Taking on Technology Preconference' (sounds like fun!) on Weds.
