5000 resources to do just about anything online

5000 resources to do just about anything onlineI love mashable and I can't possibly summarize everything in this article, but if you are looking for new things to do with your blog/website, or just to have a little fun on the 'net, do take a look. You can find things such as 30 widgets for a wordpress blog, 70+ podcasting tools, 12+ twitter tools, etc. Lots and lots of wordpress stuff. ;-)

the end is near? (well for web 2.0, etc.)

On one list I read (sorry, I forgot which one) a user posted that they thought the term Web 2.0 would slowly fade away. As we all become more comfortable with the dynamic, interactive and user oriented technology on the web (my paraphrasing), Web 2.0 would just become the "web." Thinking over all of the various technological advancements in modern history, it does seem that when they are new and shiny, there are various buzz words associated with them. As the new technology becomes more familiar or in some cases incorporated into our daily lives, what we call it becomes more mundane.

conference overview

Alot of interesting info at the conference I attended yesterday. A few practical things (how to use handheld scanners to do inventory -- looks labor intensive but not hard) and an glimpse into captivate for creating tutorials. The social technologies program was most interesting. For one, the presenter demoed my favorite web 2.0 video. ;-)Mostly, I was interested to see how many libraries in that group are NOT blogging or using social networking in some ways.

Save 5 hours a day (a day!) the geek way

Save 5 Hours a Day, the Geek WayIn a nutshell:1)Don't watch tv - web it, divo it, only watch what you are really interested in2)Don't read spam (use a spam filter) and don't waste time on meaningless surfing (youtube)3)"Read" the newspaper while exercising (podcasts!)4)Work when others don't (ok, I do agree with this one as I have found if I work earlier or later, I am definitely more productive)5)Manage your commute: Telecommute, public transportation, etc.Okay, I do most of that already except I don't listen to books/news when

behind the times, baby

behind the times, baby

Friday I went to this conference where the keynote speaker (Dr. Maddeus) essentially said that all of the folks in the audience were out of the loop and if we didn’t get with the technology we were going to miss the boat (!!). Anyhow, he started out the presentation with some very over the top Bill-n-Ted speak, to which I leaned over to K, and said, ‘dude, this is not going to be most excellent’ (which I meant in a very sarcastic way!)

Library Links : Accessibility, OPACs, and THE decision by LC to abandon Series tracing

Well, there are a lot of hot topics floating around the cataloging world in addition to usual chatter about library catalogs (both good & bad, etc.), metadata vs. cataloging ( and the war would be where?), google as a model for library catalogs (I am actually writing a minipaper on that), etc. Probably, the hottest topic currently is the Library of Congress decision to stop tracing series. Anyhow, I won't go into all of the particulars, as you can certainly find lots and lots of info about it by now.In some ways, I can understand their rationale.

update

well, in addition to barely scraping through the semester, I managed to put myself in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer (significant blood loss). Thankfully I didn't need the blood they pulled for me for transfusion but I ended up with a major case of anemia. So, lots of sickness for the last two months or so. I will try to update here a little more as I know this is the only place that some of you read my updates. I am mostly better, but I have some dietary restrictions as well as dietary additions.
